Another day behind us. I had a good one working on building projects. We are slowly working through painting the 20 or so plywood sheets for the ceiling of the hay barn addition. It's a quick twice-a-day thing; hop over and slap on another coat of paint. Despite the protection of gloves and a smock, I'm really terrible at not getting paint all over myself.
This afternoon Andrew and I worked on getting the loafing shed a little more support. It's a very old building, and will probably need to be replaced in a couple years, but we want to keep it going as long as possible. The bottoms of a couple posts that support the beams were rotting, so we had to replace them. The biggest problem is the walls were bowing out so badly that in the middle they weren't actually resting on the foundation any more. That was the fun part. Andrew actually came in with the pallet forks on the tractor, lifted the wall, and pulled it back onto the foundation. (Pictures would have been cool, but sometimes it's just not possible to stop what you're doing to photograph everything.)
Instead, you can have a picture of my lunch. I certainly can't complain about the food here, as it's all fantastic. Pretty much for lunch I just grab whatever is in the farm store. And for supper it was mine and Jacob's turn to cook, so we collaborated with him making rice and creamed chard (which was delicious) and I roasted a fresh chicken (which was one of the best chickens I've ever had.) Just another day of farm eatin'.
