When I went up to the layer chick greenhouse yesterday afternoon, I discovered that about half of the 400 chicks we have in their had escaped their brooder enclosure. I went back to the farm to get Ross, and we spent the next 30 minutes chasing tiny chicks in a circle trying to capture them all. In the end, we recruited more help from the High Mowing students nearby and having just a wall of people made short work of it. So that was fun.
Ross and I spent most of our time yesterday working on the movable pens for the broiler chicks. The next batch is ready to go out to pasture sometime this week, so we needed to finish dressing the pens for them and making sure everything was in working order. We also broke down some older pens that need to be rebuilt.
