I got to spend some lovely time in the beautiful weather this morning. I was tasked with hunting down all of Andrew's willow transplants, so I could weed and mulch around them. There are several (11?) of them scattered in the various wetlands around the farm, plus the ones we apprentices put by the pond a month or so ago. It involved quite a bit of wading through grass as high as my chest and trying not to fall flat on my face because the ground drops off there. But I enjoyed it, and was successful in my mulching mission.
At one point I happened upon a wild turkey and her babies. When I got there, she was quite hidden under a bush. In my excitement at her appearance, I momentarily forgot what baby turkeys were called, and exclaimed, "Oh, turklings!" So obviously from now on, they are no longer named chicks, but turklings. Spread the word.
It has been on Andrew's to-do list for about 5 weeks now to put up the outer ledger board for the hay barn addition. So he was bound and determined to put it up today, rain or shine. (There was a little of both.) He and Bobby put that up this afternoon, and had a dismaying discovery. The inner ledger board, which Ross and I worked so diligently to put up, was in the wrong spot. Through no fault of our own, since it's exactly where we were told to put it, but now it needs to be completely redone 9 1/2 inches higher. For now, the outer board is tacked on with nails, and once the inner one is moved, it will be secured with bolts.
