Not much excitement here today. Saturdays are market day for all, with myself and Benjamin heading out into the world to peddle our wares, and everyone else stocking the farm store all day for the mad weekend rush. We did have the misfortune of losing a calf this morning, which is always a sad thing. But life continues. And every Saturday Benjamin arranges a lovely fresh bouquet to brighten up the cheese room.

Wow. Two consecutive days of bad news. Was the calf you lost male or female? Any idea why it didn't make it? How rough to lose a cow and a calf in the space of two days.

I believe it was a female calf. There's really no way for us to be sure what happened, since it was already dead when we found it, but the prevailing theory is that it was simply a long labor and the calf didn't get oxygen in time. Definitely a sad thing to happen; she would have been quite beautiful and another welcome addition.
