Good weather means busy days on the farm. Yesterday Ross and I spent most of our non-animal time putting up a ledger board for the addition to the hay barn that is happening slowly but surely. (I also did stuff up on the ladder, I didn't just make Ross do it all.) We also changed out the windows in the barn for screens, in which events led to the decision that "Just make it work" should be our tagline.
TWCF Apprentices: Just Make It Work
Chores are ever present and often changing. The broiler chicks were kicked out of the brooder last week to make room for a new batch, and are continuing their growing outside. They transformed so quickly from tiny balls of fuzz to cranky little chickens.
I was keeping this up my sleeve in case it didn't work out, but I happened to meet a lovely lady a couple days ago who mentioned she and her husband were picking up their bees the next day. I got quite excited and she kindly invited me out to watch the hiving process. Their property is quite close to the farm, and it worked out nicely that I was able to go over after I was done working as they were hiving. I also dragged Ross along with me, and it was fun to see and meet new people and talk about bees a little bit.
Then today was my day off, and the weather was so lovely that I went for another walk. Andrew had mentioned there was a nice view from one of the fields nearby, so I went to check that out, and he wasn't lying. It was gorgeous, and a perfect day for a tromp through the fields. The grass is growing taller and the flowers are blooming, so the fields were alive with honeybees and other pollinators.
